LIGHTFOOT AIR CONDITIONING
AND REFRIGERATION, INC
After coming home from World War II, Johnny Dawson (J D) Lightfoot received his teaching degree. He then taught Air Conditioning & Refrigeration for a while and there he met W.R. Owens. While he was teaching, J.D. was also working part time out of his home doing service work and working for Lacy Creamery as a refrigeration technician. He soon decided he needed help at the creamery so he hired W.R. Owens. After working together at the creamery, J.D. & W. R. decided to go into business together full time. Therefore, in the early 1950's, the two started their joint venture: Lightfoot & Owens Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Service
They started their new business as a franchised dealer for Friedrich, which made high quality window and central units. They sold Friedrich equipment and developed a well respected service business which became known to work on just about anything. The business continued to grow and was able to allow Alfred (Al) Lightfoot to move back to his home town from the Dallas area in 1974. In Dallas he was working for a well respected refrigeration company that specialized in large grocery store refrigeration.
When Friedrich decided to get out of the central unit business, Lightfoot & Owens picked up the General Electric brand of equipment and became a GE dealer. Later, in 1982, the General Electric brand of central units was sold to Trane Air Conditioning, which Lightfoot Air & Refrigeration continues to sell.
After Mr. Owens retired in 1979, J.D. and Al Lightfoot continued the business as Lightfoot Air Conditioning and Refrigeration. J.D. and Al began breaking ground for the current building at 1414 West Oak in April of 1983. J.D. Retired in 1984 and passed away in 2006, leaving Al to operate the family business until now.
The company has continued to evolve through the years. In the beginning, a majority of the work was residential and light commercial. Now it does residential and commercial air conditioning, convenience store equipment, restaurant equipment, including cooking equipment, drink systems, sales, service and leasing of ice making equipment. The company has continued to increase the diversity of serviced items to give its customers one source of dependable service.
Only, with long term employees, has Lightfoot Air & Refrigeration been able to achieve its success. With their help, the company feels it has been able to hold true to the company's Motto:
“Quality Products & Service Since 1950"
